Drum Roll Please! Finally here it is my tried and true pumpkin soup recipe. Don’t let the list of ingredients or the number of steps intimidate you, this is worth every second of prep.
This recipe was published in October 2001, in one of the first Martha Stewart Living magazines that I had purchased. This particular issue had an entire section on pumpkin foods. The more I read about the different things you could do with pumpkin, the more I wanted to try this versatile food.

Jamie’s mom, Laura, recently gave me a few cookbooks (I know, like I need more cookbooks!). Anyway, these were the kind that you get from your local church or Women’s Auxiliary Club. What I love about these types of cookbooks, is that the recipes are always tried and true, and it is all about sharing a passion of cooking with other people who are just as passionate.
While I was flipping through this small spiral bound book, a recipe jumped off the page at me – Muffins that Taste like Doughnuts! What?!? I knew immediately that I had to make this recipe. 🙂

I can’t believe that today represents my 100th blog post! It is crazy to think that I have been doing this for almost a year 🙂
I never imagined that I would enjoy this creative outlet so much. Writing for Ruby Reduction twice a week is the most fun I have ever had writing.

As I am sitting here, feeling the satisfaction of a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend spent with family and friends, I thought I would share with you my pumpkin pancake recipe. We whipped up a batch of these on Saturday morning, before we started to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner.

With it being Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, I’ll be taking a few days off from Ruby Reduction to spend time with my sister Cherie, brother-in-law Dwayne, and nephew Sam.
However, while the blog may be closed for the weekend (in a figurative sense, feel free to check out past posts!), the kitchen will still be open for business! We’ll be cooking and baking up a storm, taking inspiration from the fall colours and season flavours (read: pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and turkey with stuffing. Oh, and maybe bacon.)

For anyone who has taken a peek at my bio page, you know that the inspiration behind this blog was my Grandma Ruby. Yesterday would have been her 93th birthday, so I thought I would celebrate her with dedicating today’s blog post to her.

Everyone has a favourite dessert that they like to order when they are out for dinner. For some it is a rich piece of chocolate cake, covered in layer after layer of thick chocolate icing. For others it is a scrumptious piece of cheesecake, topped with tons of fruit. Well for me, my all time favourite dessert is a creamy and delicious crème brulée.

It started out as any other Sunday. Jamie and I were planning out our meals for the week, and we were getting ready to spend another fabulous day in the kitchen. Then Jamie made a suggestion to make some home-made hamburgers for dinner. This was a great idea, since we haven’t had home-made burgers since Super Bowl Sunday when Jamie whipped up a batch of sliders.

When my nephew, Sam, comes to Ottawa for a visit, I want to make sure that his visit is filled with yummy treats. While his parents entice him with healthy fare like veggies and chicken, I feel it is my duty as Auntie Connie to present him with fun food options like cookies, cake and ice cream 🙂

WOW, I can’t believe that this is going to be my last post of the year. 2011 has gone by so quickly. It seems that as I get older, the years fly by faster and faster.
2011 has been a great year for me. I thought I would share with you some of my highlights. Don’t worry, my first post of the new year will be back to recipes 🙂
