Turkey Mushroom Sausage Patties

Turkey Mushroom Sausage

#GrillOn

Earlier this year I was approached by Turkey Farmers of Canada and Mushrooms Canada to create two grilling recipes to be published this summer in e-cookbooks available through Facebook. The recipes would be original and combine mushrooms and turkey. I was honoured! WOW, I never would have imagined that my small blog would have been recognized in a national capacity. Once I got over the initial shock, I started to doubt myself. Could I really create two original recipes using turkey and mushrooms? I don’t even have a BBQ!  Would my creations measure up to what they are looking for? Because they were going to compensate me, I wanted to deliver a quality product, and I was worried that I would disappoint. But, Jamie told me to go for it!  Jump in with both feet and accept the offer. So, I slept on it and decided to go for it 🙂

Oven Roasted Pulled Pork

Oven Roasted Pulled Pork

I have been spending a lot of my free time watching the Food Network. Specifically, I have been watching a lot of episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I don’t know what it is that draws me to this program, but I just can’t get enough of it. It is like I have an un-natural attraction to burgers 🙂

So, in watching an abundant amount of this program, I have come to realize that anyone with an oven and a few hours to spare can make delicious pulled pork. I always thought that I had to have a smoker in order to make a proper pulled pork, but a lot of the restaurants on this program dry rub their pork shoulder and roast it in the oven for hours. It looks like it comes out tender, juicy and fully shred-able. Based on my viewing, I decided to give this a try.

Breakfast T.A.B.L.E.

I was wandering around the grocery store when a fabulous idea struck me!  A BLT Breakfast sandwich!!  Now I know what you are thinking, “Connie, you did not invent the BLT Breakfast sandwich.”  I know, I know, they are available at every coffee and doughnut shop in every city, but I saw inspiration when I glanced at a beautiful head of Boston leaf lettuce and from that small glance, a new breakfast was born (at least in our home).

Turkey Burger with Grilled Pineapple

I know that fall is here, but I couldn’t resist one more, summer–time recipe to share with you before I go completely into fall mode with comfort food consisting of squash and soup recipes.

We have created burgers on here before, but this time we thought we would change it up a bit and share with you our turkey burger recipe. The great thing about burgers is you can really just throw a bunch of spices in a bowl with some ground meat and you instantly have the makings of a pretty good burger.

Tuna Pickle Salad Sandwich

This week in Ottawa has been extremely warm; temperatures have been 30°C+ with humidex readings of over 40. Needless to say, turning on the oven in our apartment isn’t really an option. If you can believe it, we fried up some bacon one night, and, as much as I love the smell of bacon, I thought it seemed too heavy in the heat. Therefore, bacon was only on the menu once this week 😦

Italian Cold Cut Sandwich

The role of today’s food blogger will be played by Jeff Clements*.

Hey everyone. When Connie offered me the opportunity to be a guest on her blog I thought “how hard can it be?” Then I remembered how difficult it was back in high school English Lit. All the punctuation, syntax and grammatical challenges; man, I really started sweating. God, I have to come up with a topic too! What was I thinking? I am not a writer. I can’t do this. I need something to eat. (You see, when I’m stressed I eat. Not because I’m particularly hungry (though I most often am) but because it lets me cook and that’s my escape) I’m getting a sandwich.
