Mushroom Stuffed Turkey Cutlets

Grilled Turkey Cutlet Stuffed with Mushrooms

Stuffed Turkey Cutlet cut in half to see mushrooms

This is the second recipe that I submitted to Turkey Farmers of Canada and Mushrooms Canada for their #GrillOn Summer promotion. You will remember that the first recipe I made for them was the Turkey Mushroom Sausage.

I knew that I wanted to make something stuffed for this promotion. I actually wanted to make a roulade, but that didn’t turn out too well. It tasted great, but it didn’t slice or photograph very well. I am not sure if my knife wasn’t sharp enough, but it ended up looking like a turkey mushroom casserole instead of a beautiful roulade 🙂

Lemon Brussels Sprouts

Lemon Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts have to be one of our favourite vegetables. I really don’t know why I didn’t enjoy these when I was a kid, but they have become a regular staple on our grocery list. I quite often find myself cooking up way more than we need so I can eat the roasted sprouts cold the next day as a delicious snack 🙂

Triple Lemon Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Icing

Happy Birthday Laurel

This past weekend we hosted an Easter Brunch for all of our Ottawa friends. But, not only was our brunch to celebrate Easter, it was also to celebrate our friend Laurel’s birthday.

I wasn’t quite sure what type of birthday dessert to prepare for her, so I enlisted Jeff’s help in determining the perfect dessert to serve. I gave many options, cake, *pie even an ice cream cake, but Jeff came back with cake and told me that her favourite flavours were lemon and vanilla. How incredible is that! A lemon and vanilla birthday cake, I knew that could be arranged!

Easy Lemon Cookies / Happy Birthday to Me

Easy Lemon Cookies

Today is my birthday and because lemon is likely one of my most favourite flavours (beside bacon!) I thought I would share with you this super easy and delicious recipe for lemon cookies! 🙂

It is really hard for me to believe that today I am turning 40!  When I was a child, I used to think that forty was so old!  But as I turned the page on a new decade this morning, I don’t think forty is old at all!  I feel that I am in such a good place right now that I am embracing forty with open arms!  I have a husband who loves me, a fabulous family and the greatest group of friends!  I love my life, and wouldn’t change a single thing about it!

Tilapia Provençale

Jamie and I had the pleasure this summer of stumbling upon a few used book sales. This is a fabulous way to spend a Saturday morning, with your coffee in hand and browsing through well loved books to discover a hidden gem.

Lemon Coconut Loaf

Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely love lemon!  I mentioned my obsession with this fruit when I shared with you my first attempt at Lemon Meringue Pie.  Now I am back with another lemon inspired recipe – Lemon Coconut Loaf.

I had seen many recipes for lemon loafs, and I wanted to give one a try.  What I like about a loaf or a quick bread, is that you don’t have to play around with yeast or kneeding.  You just add all your ingredients together, put them in a loaf pan and pop it in the oven.  Done and done! 😉

Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus

I am back with yet another Hummus recipe 🙂  I still can’t believe that I used to buy this pre-made.  It is so easy to make yourself.  I must have thrown hundreds of dollars away on prepared product.  Yikes!

I was in the grocery store, when I saw a jar of oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes.  The idea struck me to make this into a delicious hummus, and to incorporate some of the oil from the jar of tomatoes into the mix.

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Ever since I have discovered how incredibly easy it is to make your own hummus, I have been making it on a pretty regular basis.  Store bought hummus used to be a staple in my grocery cart, but now that has changed and my new go-to grocery store item is a can of chick peas.  I have a reserve in the pantry, so I can satisfy that hummus craving any time I want!

Spicy Hummus

Now that the weather is nice, it is time to start to think about BBQ’s, picnics and the many types of food that go along with these outdoor events. Fresh vegetables are always a favourite of mine, but sometimes just eating raw vegetables gets a little boring. I find myself scouring the picnic table looking for something to dip my cucumber slice into. Then I see it – Hummus!

Lemon and Lime Cayenne Cookies

The food blogging duties will be handled today by Connie’s husband, Jamie.

It’s funny how our taste preferences have a tendency to change or evolve with age. If I were to sit down little nine year old Jamie and ask him to name his three favourite vegetables, I can almost guarantee the list would not include broccoli, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts. However, 25 years later and rarely a day goes by in which I’m not enjoying a combination of all three.
