A few months ago I tried making my own almond butter, and much to my surprise it was incredibly easy and absolutely delicious! Since that day forward, Jamie and I have not purchased a jar of almond butter (and we go through a lot!) but each weekend we roast almonds and whip up a batch to last us the week. (for us the perfect ratio is 3-1)

Happy Birthday Grandma, Always in my thoughts
For anyone who has taken a peek at my bio page, you know that the inspiration behind this blog was my Grandma Ruby. Yesterday would have been her 93th birthday, so I thought I would celebrate her with dedicating today’s blog post to her.
Oven Roasted Beet Chips
I love potato chips. It doesn’t matter what flavour they are, I will eat them. I consciously avoid the chip aisle in the grocery store, as my will power is weak when it comes to crunchy, salty snack foods.
We have discovered a brand of root vegetable chips, called Terra Chips. They make their chips, not just with potatoes, but with a variety of root vegetables; parsnips, sweet potatoes, taro and beets. Because they use a variety of vegetables I feel a little less guilty about a weekend indulgence of this salty treat.
Coconut Cream Pie
Well, I finally did it – I made a pie crust! My Grandma would be so proud!
I had managed to avoid the dreaded pie crust until one day my good friend Jen asked if she could come over to learn how to make a coconut cream pie. Of course, I thought, no problem. It is funny, when she made the suggestion, I had no hesitation. Then, during the planning phase of the pie-making experience, she asked if I had ever made one before. Nope. However, since the lemon meringue pie I baked with Andreana was such a success, I was confident Jen and I could make an equally delicious coconut cream pie.
Maple Bacon Crème Brulée
OK, you all know how much I love bacon. It is true; in fact, I think I might be addicted. You know you have a problem when your friends and co-workers comment that your recent blog entries have been lacking that element of bacon. Well, hopefully this post will right the wrong that I have been avoiding my bacon quota 🙂
Beef Wellington with Mushroom Pâté
If you have been following along on my blogging journey, you have likely picked up on the fact that one of our favourite restaurants is The Keg. We really enjoy their steaks, they are always perfect, and not having a BBQ is a great excuse to go out for a delicious steak dinner.
One weekend, we decided to try to do steaks in the apartment. Now, we could have used our grill pan, but we wanted to try something different. So, to the internet I went, looking for steak dinner ideas. When I saw Beef Wellington turn up in my search results, I saw this as a real possibility.
Sesame Pulled Pork Sandwiches
BBQ season is just around the corner, so it is time to think of sweet and sticky sauces and messy sandwiches!
As I have mentioned before, just because we live in an apartment and don’t have a BBQ, doesn’t mean that we have to give up on the deliciousness of BBQ, we just have to improvise.
Lemon Baked Chicken
Chicken. You can cook it so many ways. It is delicious and healthy, but it is easy to fall into a routine when cooking this on a very regular basis. I came across this recipe on the Kraft website and immediately book-marked it and sent the link to my sister.
Jamie and I eat a lot of chicken (as you already know) so another recipe for our weekly repertoire is always good, but what caught my attention with this preparation was lemon. Yum, I love lemon, so I knew I had to try this one out 🙂
Basic Pizza Dough
I think that Friday night is the perfect pizza night! (well, actually I could likely eat pizza every day of the week, but Friday’s just seem a bit more right for pizza 🙂 )
If you have the time making your own pizza dough is pretty easy. Plus there are two obvious benefits:
- You know all the ingredients that are going into your pizza
- It is so much cheaper than having one delivered
